Details

COCO-2 is a model for assessing the potential economic costs likely to arise off-site following an accident at a nuclear reactor. Of particular note are the consideration of the directly affected local economy, indirect losses that stem from the directly affected businesses, losses due to changes in tourism consumption, integration with the large body of work on recovery after an accident and a more systematic approach to health costs.

The work, where possible, is based on official data sources for reasons of traceability, maintenance and ease of future development.

The report describes the methodology and discusses the results of an example calculation. Guidance on how the base economic data can be updated in the future is also provided.

Supporting documentation

This is available for download in compressed ZIP format. The data are in the form of maps composed of 1 kilometre grid squares in ESRI shapefile format with the attribute information for each grid square held as an entry in the associated dBase table of each map. The report provides descriptions of the supplied data together with information on the original data sources and the methods used to produce the maps.

The Excel spreadsheet contains copies of tables from the report.

Please note that the ‘.dbf’ files can be opened using Excel but the software must be opened first before attempting to open the files. The ‘.prj’ files can be opened with Notepad.
