DAO Level 2 Award in Safe use of Personal Weapons

Overall Objective for the Qualification

This qualification provides the standard that must be achieved by those using small arms. For the purpose of this unit and qualification, ‘Personal Weapons’ are personal, individual weapons i.e. single shot, semi-automatic and fully automatic up to .20 calibre and the following are included:

  • Rifles
  • Sub-machine guns
  • Light machine guns
  • Pistols
  • Shotguns
  • Muzzle-loading weapons (which may exceed .50 calibre).

This unit and qualification may be used to attest to competence in the use of such weapons on land, sea and airborne platforms.

The qualification is open to anyone who can demonstrate that they meet its requirements.

There are no entry requirements, but Centres must ensure that any candidate taking the qualification is capable of meeting the learning and assessment requirements with due regard to their own safety and that of others.
