Details

On 27 October 2016 the Minister for Defence Veterans, Reserves and Personnel, Mark Lancaster TD MP, welcomed the recently appointed Nepalese Ambassador to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Dr. Durga Bahadur Subedi for his inaugural visit to the Ministry of Defence. The visit was an opportunity for the countries to reaffirm the strong relationship between the United Kingdom and Nepal and to celebrate the 200 years of service provided to the crown by Gurkhas.

During the meeting Dr Subedi presented Mr Lancaster with a letter on behalf of the Nepalese Foreign Minister, Hon. Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat setting out the government of Nepal’s aspiration to find a sustainable solution to grievances held by some ex-Gurkha veterans. Mr Lancaster wrote this letter to the Nepalese Ambassador in response, reaffirming the government’s willingness to hold dialogue with ex-Gurkha veterans groups.
