Ministry of Defence: Official and National Statistics user engagement policy

Updated 30 January 2024

Introduction

This policy sets out how the Ministry of Defence (MOD) will communicate and engage with users of our Official and National Statistics. In particular, the processes by which MOD will consult with users regarding proposed changes to our Official and National Statistics and the processes by which users can provide feedback to us on our statistics.

In cases where users already have regular lines of communication set up with statistical teams, this policy is not intended to alter or replace them. Our aim is to ensure that all users of our statistics are aware of how they can contact the relevant business area or individual, and how they can keep up-to-date with developments about statistical releases.

Communication with users

The main means of communication with users of our statistics is via the statistics at MOD homepage on GOV.UK, where all Official and National statistics published by the MOD can be found, as well as information about user consultations, release dates and contact details.

Where business areas are aware of stakeholders with a particular on-going interest in an area of statistics, we will communicate with them directly via email to make them aware of any proposed changes to those statistics or any other relevant issues. However, any users of our statistics may request to be kept informed of issues relevant to the statistics they are interested in.

Contacting MOD and providing feedback

The MOD welcomes feedback on its statistics. There are various ways in which users can provide that feedback.

All Official and National Statistics include contact details of the person responsible for those statistics. The easiest way for users to provide feedback or ask questions about specific publications is to use the contact details included in the publication in question.

For general enquiries or feedback, or if you have any questions regarding this user engagement policy, users should use the following contact points:

Address:

Analysis Directorate
3.M MOD Main Building
Whitehall
London

Email: [email protected]

Phone: 0207 807 8792

Users can also submit a Freedom of Information request to the Ministry of Defence.

User consultations

The MOD will inform and consult with users as appropriate before ceasing publication of or making major changes to any of its Official or National Statistics.

Consultations on Official and National Statistics will follow the principles set out in the government’s Consultation Principles and the UK Statistics Authority’s Code of Practice for Statistics.

All public consultations run by the MOD will now be published on GOV.UK. Details of how users can respond to the consultation will be provided in the documentation. Consultations which closed prior to 29 July 2013 are available on the UK Government web archive.

Responding to feedback

If users provide feedback to us via any of the methods outlined above and request a response, we will contact them directly to discuss their feedback in more detail.
