Details

This report collected the results of the National Dental Public Health Epidemiology Programme which were obtained from dental surveys that included dental surveys of 5-year-old children living in Bedford Borough in 2008 and again in 2015. The survey counted the number of children who had tooth decay and the severity of decay in both years. Some of the children lived in areas within Bedford Borough that had fluoride in the water, and others lived in areas which had never had water fluoridation.

The aims of the report were to assess:

  • the impact of water fluoridation on the dental health of 5-year-olds in Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire
  • the impact of water fluoridation on the dental health of 5-year-olds in areas of advantage or disadvantage in Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire
  • the level of fluorosis in the 12-year-old population in Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire
