Plan explaining the role and practices of science within the Department for Transport (DfT).

The plan gives guidance on:

  • people practices, understanding and developing the skills and talent required in DfT and beyond
  • forming partnerships across government and the wider transport research and development sector
  • the purpose of science in DfT decision-making and ensuring science activity maintains a focus on departmental priorities

The plan covers all DfT science activities:

  • research
  • development
  • engineering
  • innovation
  • natural, social and behavioural sciences

It has been published in tandem with Areas of Research Interest 2021, which details DfT’s strategic medium- to long-term research and evidence needs.
