In order to better understand the real-life performance of biomass heating systems, DECC commissioned Steve Luker Ltd and Re:Heat to undertake a desk study in March and April 2014 of this year. The resulting report presents an assessment of the performance standards and installation practices in the under 1MW biomass heating sector in the UK, and was undertaken using existing published data and via a desk based assessment of current industry practice both here and abroad.

Due to the uncertainties around the data presented in the report DECC is commissioning further work to set out a standard methodology for measuring and reporting efficiencies from biomass heating system, with the aim to collect a robust data set starting from winter 2015/16
