This report is an evaluation of 2 proofs of concept, ‘Recovery Works’ and ‘Recovery and Employment’. Both proofs of concept intended to better support individuals with a drug and/or alcohol dependency into work:

  • ‘Recovery Works’ set out to test the impact of awarding Work Programme providers a financial incentive for supporting an individual with a drug and/or alcohol dependency into employment

  • ‘Recovery and Employment’ sought to test the impact of DWP encouraging closer working relationships between Work Programme providers and treatment providers within existing funding arrangements

The evaluation also sought to understand the broader, national picture of relationships between the employment support and dependency support sectors.

The findings from this research have informed the Dame Carol Black review into the employment outcomes of those addicted to drugs and alcohol or who are obese.
