This review was conducted to support the Health Protection Agency in protecting against adverse effects of acute and chronic exposure to chemical poisons and other environmental hazards, and to protect and improve the health of children. The possible neurotoxic effects of environmental chemicals, particularly those involved in progressive degenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease, and those adversely affecting neurological development in children following early life stage exposure are of increasing public concern.
