EU drivers’ hours and tachograph rules still apply to journeys between the EU and UK, or wholly within the EU or UK.

AETR rules apply to journeys outside of the EU, including journeys involving Norway and Switzerland.

This guidance aims to help drivers better understand how EU drivers’ hours and working time rules relate to each other.

These rules apply to drivers of large goods vehicles and passenger-carrying vehicles.

This guidance is not a substitute for the current full guidance documents on drivers’ hours and working time.

This simplified guidance was drafted following a recommendation in a report from a stakeholder (trade associations and unions) working group.
