Details

The main report of the Right to Rent evaluation (‘Evaluation of the Right to Rent scheme’) focuses on the impact of phase one of the Right to Rent scheme, for its first six months. It also discusses the implementation of the scheme and different groups’ awareness of it.

The report draws on a range of research activities, some of which were carried out by two independent external contractors (IRIS Consulting and BDRC Continental). As well as being summarised in the main evaluation report, the contractors’ more detailed findings are available in two separate research reports.

‘Research with landlords, letting agents and tenants’ covers the Right to Rent scheme’s impact on landlords, letting agents, tenants and the housing market. It also reports on the process of the scheme’s implementation, from the perspectives of landlords, letting agents and tenants.

‘Mystery shopping to test the potential for discrimination within the private rental sector’ reports on a ‘mystery shopping’ exercise to assess if Black and Minority Ethnic individuals received different and detrimental treatment compared with White British shoppers as a result of the Right to Rent scheme. The report compares the experiences of shoppers in the phase one area with comparator locations where the scheme was not operating.
