Choosing the correct form
These forms should be used in the following circumstances:
Registering a rent
- RR1: Application form for those who have a regulated or secure tenancy, which is usually a tenancy which began before 15th January 1989
- RR1A: Registering a fair rent in the case of a statutory tenancy arising at the end of a long tenancy under part 1 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954
- RR1C: Application form for Rent Registration (Agricultural) to be used for applying for a registered rent if you have a statutory tenancy arising from the Rent (Agriculture) Act 1976
Landlords can usually apply to register a fair rent from 1 year 9 months after the last effective date. Tenants can usually apply after 2 years. Early applications will be considered if changes to the property or tenancy since the last registration date render the existing rent to be no longer fair.
Joint applications by the landlord and tenant to register a fair rent may be accepted at any time.
Cancelling a rent
- RR104: Application for Cancellation of Registered Rent to be used for cancelling a registered rent where the dwelling is no longer subject to a regulated or secure tenancy
- RR103: Application for Cancellation of Registered Rent to be used for cancelling a registered rent where the landlord and tenant wish to agree a rent which does not exceed a registered rent rather than continue to have the rent registered by the Rent Officer
Applications to cancel a registered fair rent may be accepted 2 years after the last registration date.
