Details

The Venezuela (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 ensure sanctions relating to Venezuela are implemented effectively after the UK leaves the EU.

Context

This sanctions regime is aimed at encouraging the government of Venezuela to respect democratic principles, to comply with international human rights law and to respect human rights.

The regulations impose asset freezes on persons responsible for serious human rights violations, the repression of civil society and democratic opposition, or for actions, policies or activities that undermine democracy or the rule of law in Venezuela.
