Details

The government accepts that there are other firefighters and also police officers who are affected by the principles set out in the Ombudsman’s Determination.

Those firefighters who retired between 1 December 2001 and 21 August 2006 who are due redress will be contacted by their former fire authority in due course to discuss the appropriate payment in their case.

The tables of factors to be used in calculating redress have been prepared by the Government Actuary’s Department (GAD) and supplied to the Department for Communities and Local Government.

These have now been made available online, within detailed guidance for scheme administrators to aid them in calculating the amounts owed to individuals. This guidance has been issued to fire authorities in England, who will now be in a position to start calculating the payments due. GAD’s guidance indicates that that the department may issue further guidance on various matters in due course.

The process of calculating payments will, understandably, take time. The government would like to thank those affected for their continued patience in this matter.
