On Monday 8 July, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that she had instructed Treasury officials to undertake an audit of public spending for 2024-25.

This document, presented to the House of Commons on Monday 29 July, sets out the outcome of the public spending audit 2024-25, the immediate action the government is taking in response, and the long-term measures being introduced to restore public spending control and improve public services.
