Details

This report includes information on the National Fingerprint Database policing collections and the National DNA Database. It includes:

  • information on the functioning of the databases
  • figures on the databases for 2020 to 2021 including data on the numbers of records retained on the databases and the numbers of matches generated on the databases in the two years
  • information on how the databases support the detection of crime, showing the outcomes of searches of data through real life examples
  • a section on the technological developments in the last year and also those which are forthcoming
  • a summary of the retention framework for DNA and fingerprints set out under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012)
  • a summary of the record deletion process for requesting early deletion
