The Department of Health and Health Education England (HEE) commissioned the Centre for Workforce Intelligence (CfWI) to carry out this review.

CfWI was asked to contribute research, data analysis and modelling to support them in providing sufficient medical and non-medical gastrointestinal endoscopists for GI endoscopy services.

The review was separated into 2 phases:

  • the collation of information and data, and analysis of available data to assess its suitability to inform the modelling of the workforce
  • horizon scanning, quantifying key uncertain variables, and modelling the current and forecast demand and supply of this workforce subject to the quality and availability of data

This report is a summary of phase 1. Ongoing modelling work to support phase 2 is being taken forward by HEE.
