Details

Previous work by the IPO Informatics Team was limited to inferring inventor gender from UK patent data. This study expands on this and now relates to inferring inventor gender on all patent data worldwide using PATSTAT. The report provides quantitative data to back up the anecdotal evidence within the IP industry about the representation of female inventors worldwide.

The two spreadsheets provide

  • a copy of the name-gender dataset used for this research, and
  • a copy of the raw data used for the analysis provided in the report

The gender inference table for use in conjunction with PATSTAT is saved in a tab separated text file and compressed in ZIP format. Unfortunately due to the size constraints it is not possible to save it in a manner conducive to easy reference. It is recommended that this file is imported into a suitable analysis package.
