All the data in this paper are taken from Global Burden of Disease Study 2017 (GBD 2017) results (Seattle, United States: Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), 2018). Available on GBD Compare.

The study provides modelled health intelligence.

The data set out in the document were made available to NHS England when producing their 10-year plan.

This document compares England to 22 other countries, and sets out:

  • the relative position of England compared with 22 international peers in relation to the major disease burdens
  • which diseases and risk factors in England are or are not improving
  • diseases and risks improving at a faster, or slower rate compared to peer countries The paper compares England with both EU and non-EU countries.
