The Government welcomes the House of Commons Health Committee’s report on public health and its endorsement of the Government’s intention to give greater prominence and priority to public health policy.

The White Paper ‘Healthy Lives, Healthy People’, published in November 2010, set out a bold vision for a reformed public health system in England to more effectively promote and protect the health of the population.

Policy updates on the new public health system were published in December, which define the way in which public health is to be delivered nationally through establishing Public Health England as an Executive Agency, and locally through moving responsibility and accountability for public health to local government.
