Consignee returns privacy notice

The Environment Agency runs the hazardous waste consignee returns service.

We are the data controller for this service. A data controller determines how and why personal information is processed.

  • what we do with your personal information

We are allowed to process your personal information because we have official authority as the environmental regulator.

We ask for consignee returns every 3 months (every quarter) in England. We process your personal information to carry out a task in the public interest that is set out in law. We need this information from you to process your quarterly returns. If you do not give us the information we ask for we cannot upload your data.

What we do with your personal information

We use your personal information to make sure our consignee returns database assigns quarterly data against you.

We do not use your personal information to make an automated decision or for automated profiling.

We may share your personal information with the:

  • Scottish Environmental Protection Agency
  • Natural Resources Wales
  • Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (Northern Ireland)
  • Shared Services Connected Ltd (SSCL) – they process your personal information to send invoices on our behalf

We will not share or disclose your personal information to any other party without your consent unless we are lawfully able to do so.

How long we keep your personal information

We keep your personal information for 6 years from your last submission. This is our standard information retention policy.

Where your personal information is processed and stored

The Environment Agency and SSCL store and process your personal information on servers in the UK.

We will not transfer your personal information outside the European Economic Area.
