Details

The report states that Highways England has performed well in the first year of the second road investment strategy (RIS2), including:

  • maintaining a functioning network to support the movement of goods and key workers in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic
  • adapting its working practices to ensure critical enhancements and maintenance work have continued safely despite the challenges and restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic
  • performing well against its key performance indicators and making good progress in delivering the smart motorway action plan.

This report builds on:

  • advice from the Office of Rail and Road in its role as Highways Monitor
  • advice from Transport Focus in its role as road-user watchdog
  • Highways England’s own assessments of its performance

The performance report for 2019 to 2020 was published in July 2020.
