Details

The Strategic Design Panel supports Highways England in applying the principles of good design, seeking excellence in landscape, engineering and the built environment. The Panel takes a multi-disciplinary approach that sees good design adding value to road schemes by maximising opportunities for people and places.

In the time of moving from the first to the second road period, the Strategic Design Panel has overseen the design review of complex and sensitive schemes and made recommendations to Highways England from these reviews. It has also considered and made recommendations on the importance of corridor design, climate change and biodiversity and monitored actions from previous recommendations.
