Details

The local authority (LA) insight survey aims to discover how LAs administer benefits and gather their points of view on current issues.

We use the subsidy regime to reimburse LAs for paying the correct amount of Housing Benefit to claimants. The subsidy regime is designed to provide assurance to the Accounting Officer on the correct implementation of Housing Benefit policy and the correctness of the amount of subsidy reimbursed to LAs.

This wave of the survey included the following topics:

  • effectiveness of the subsidy regime
  • the impact of the Single Fraud Investigation Service
  • suggested improvements to the subsidy regime

We’re using the results in our response to the Public Accounts Committee recommendation that we should produce a proposal for how to strengthen incentives so that LAs can tackle Housing Benefit fraud and error more effectively.
