1. Re: Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request

Thank you for your email of 14th April 2022 in which you requested from the Insolvency Service:

“Is it possible to access (have you collected and available) data on the number of insolvencies, by type and ward, for the time period 2011-2021 at a higher frequency (monthly or quarterly number of insolvencies)?”

Your request has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

I can confirm that the agency holds the information that you have requested. We have compiled a CSV file at Annex A that shows the number of individual insolvencies, by type and ward, for each quarter for the period between 2011 and 2021.

Under Section 16 of the Act (Advice and Assistance) you may find it useful to note:

Data on individuals that have entered insolvency are sourced from a live administrative system owned and managed by the Insolvency Service. The data used to compile this summary were taken on the 7th January 2022, as they were used to produce the latest Location, Age and Gender Statistics, and therefore match those previously published. However, individual insolvencies with unknown location are excluded from the CSV file at Annex A. Further information on the methodology used to compile these numbers can be found in the Methodology and Quality document accompanying the Location, Age and Gender statistics.

If you are not satisfied with the response we have provided you and would like us to reconsider our decision by way of an internal review (IR), please contact our Information Rights Team at [email protected] or by post at:
