Details
These are revised projections using corrected data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Revised employment and skills projections for the Skills Imperative 2035 from the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) has information about the impact of the corrected data.
The projections consider the future size and shape of the labour market nationally and across local areas by:
- industry
- occupation
- qualification level
- gender
- employment status
They form part of The Skills Imperative 2035 research programme, led by NFER and funded by the Nuffield Foundation. The Department for Education (DfE) funded the subregional analyses as an extension to this project.
The projections are not precise predictions but represent the most likely trajectory of labour market change.
DfE previously published projections for 2017 to 2027.
Labour market and skills projections: 2020 to 2035 published by DfE in March 2023 is available on the National Archives.

We have replaced all the files and documents on the page with revised projections using corrected data published by ONS. The new files also correct a geographic mapping error in 3 of the sub-regional breakdowns: Dorset LSIP, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire LEP and Worcestershire LEP. We have removed data for Enterprise M3 LSIP from the LSIP breakdowns because of a problem mapping the geography of this area. We have also added 'UK additional tables' to the 'Nations projections' zip file.
