Details
Natural England has received funding from EU LIFE for the LIFE WADER partnership project.
The LIFE WADER project will improve the water quality and ecological conditions of different habitats in the river Tweed catchment, estuary and the Northumberland Coast.
The project will achieve this by working with stakeholders, including farmers and land managers. The project will deliver practical actions and reduce disturbance to birds, mammals and sensitive habitats through visitor management.
It will also trial removal of macroalgae and innovation detection of invasive species.
Natural England leads the project, working in partnership with:
- The Environment Agency
- The Tweed Forum
- Newcastle University
The project will also work with Northumbrian Water.
In addition to the £3.6 million grant from EU LIFE, project partner contributions make a total of £5.8 million funding for LIFE WADER. The project will run for 5 years from October 2021.
