Details

The government ran the COVID-19 financial impact monitoring data collection between April 2020 to May 2022. The data collection gathered information from local authorities on the evolving impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on local authority finances. The information was provided by local authorities on a voluntary basis from Shire Counties, Shire Districts, Metropolitan Districts, London Boroughs and Unitary Authorities across England.

This was an important source of information for government in providing an appropriate and measured response to the financial pressures faced by local authorities during the COVID-19 pandemic. See funding provided by government to and through local authorities across the COVID-19 pandemic.

Local delivery partners were key in rolling out the UK’s vaccine programme which placed the UK in a strong position. As a result, the virus is now reaching the endemic stage, changing the government’s strategy to manage the virus. This data collection was temporarily set-up as part of the government’s urgent response, and will conclude at Round 20, which covered the period April to May 2022.

Although the COVID-19 financial impact monitoring has now ended, local authorities will still be able to provide information on any continuing cost pressures, as a result of COVID-19, through the Quarterly Revenue Outturn, the annual Revenue Outturn and Revenue Account data collections.

It should be noted that the figures presented are based on self-reported best estimates at the time of reporting.
