Details

Paper prepared by academics at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), University College London (UCL), and University of Bristol on seroprevalence in Orthodox Jewish communities. It was considered at SAGE 81 on 18 February 2021.

These are an assessment of the evidence at the time of writing. As new evidence or data emerges, SAGE updates its advice accordingly.

Seroprevalence surveys are investigations that use serology testing within a certain population. Serology testing identifies whether blood contains antibodies for a virus and can give an estimate for how a group has been affected by a virus.

This paper should be read alongside the supplementary data titled Supplementary Information for extremely high SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence in a strictly-Orthodox Jewish community in the UK, 1 February 2021, which was also discussed at SAGE 81.

Both of these papers have also been published externally on LSHTM Data Compass.

These documents are released as pre-print publications that have provided the government with rapid evidence during an emergency. These documents have not been peer-reviewed and there is no restriction on authors submitting and publishing this evidence in peer-reviewed journals.
