Members of Parliament and the Trades Union Congress asked the council to look again at the Cotes formula used in the lung function assessment for chronic bronchitis and emphysema in underground coal miners.

After reviewing the evidence, the council decided that it would be appropriate to continue to use the Cotes formula.
