Details

The responses of eight hand-held instruments to caesium-137 internal contamination in people were determined. The caesium was presented in the form of a bottle manikin absorption (BOMAB) phantom filled with caesium-137 in solution. The phantom used was assembled to represent the International Commission on Radiological Protection 23 Reference Man and five smaller configurations representing a 16, 14, 8, and 4 year old, and a 3 month old infant.

The procedures and instruments described in this report could be used to rapidly monitor a large group of people for caesium-137 internal contamination. The results of this screening could be used to identify people for possible decorporation therapy.
