How to measure children and young people’s mental wellbeing and how to use available information from national and local sources to assess and develop interventions aimed at improving it.

The guide is intended to help commissioners and people supporting local joint strategic needs assessments to:

  • compare mental wellbeing between local areas
  • compare levels of risk and protective factors between local areas
  • understand what areas with good mental wellbeing look like
  • make or inform decisions about priorities locally

The appendix which accompanies this guide identifies measures which could be used to quantify mental wellbeing and its determinants. It includes advice on how to select and use each measure and their limitations.
