The Committee on Standards in Public Life has today written to party leaders and the government and opposition whips’ offices to emphasise the importance of an induction on the Seven Principles of Public Life for new MPs.

While many new MPs will be familiar with these, or similar, principles from previous roles, upholding these principles will be particularly important now that they hold public office, and there will be increased public attention and scrutiny of their actions.

The Committee encourages all new MPs to attend the session on the Standards and Reputation of the House of Commons which will take place next week. At this session, the Committee’s Chair, Lord Bew, will be presenting to the new MPs so that they are clear about what is expected of them as high-profile public office holders.

More information on the importance of this induction session can be found on our blog.
