Details

On 28 February 2018 the Isle of Wight Council made a formal application to the Marine management Organisation (MMO) under section 14 of the Harbours Act 1964 for the Newport Isle of Wight (IoW) Harbour Revision Order 2021 (“the Order”).

The Order provides clarity regarding the harbour limits to include port premises and grants the council modern powers of direction. The Order also extends the council’s powers to grant tenancies within the harbour premises and enter into commercial activities. Full details of these powers can be viewed in the Order and the rationale behind the powers can be viewed in the accompanying statement in support.

The MMO approved the making of the Order on 9 February 2021, details of the decision-making process can be viewed in the Newport Isle of Wight (IoW) Harbour Revision Order 2021 decision document. The Order will be laid before parliament on 16 February 2021 and will come into force on 10 March 2021.
