NTE 2024/25: launch of the ‘Apply for a SIEL’ service (LITE) public beta
Published 17 September 2024
Introduction
The Export Control Joint Unit (ECJU) of the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is launching the first service on a new online system, LITE. The first service to be launched is ‘Apply for a SIEL’, moving applications for a standard individual export licence (SIEL) away from the current system, SPIRE.
Any exporter, minus some exceptions, can now register on LITE using the SIEL registration link. If you are already using LITE as a member of the private beta you can access LITE through this new link or any saved links you may have to continue using your account.
Some exceptions remain, which apply to certain exporters or types of SIEL applications. Where an exception applies, you should apply for your SIEL on SPIRE, information about these exceptions can be found on our GOV.UK SIEL guidance and on the start page for our new service. These pages will be kept updated as LITE continues to be developed.
Our intention is to transition all SIEL applications off SPIRE in the coming months. We will inform you on updates on how to make to these specific types of applications via our Notices to Exporters.
SPIRE is still live and all non-SIEL applications should continue to be applied for on SPIRE, for the time being.
