The Industrial Injuries Advisory Council (IIAC) invited the Institute of Occupational Medicine to undertake a systematic review of the evidence relating to occupational health risks in firefighters.

The purpose of the review was to:

  • identify the occupational health risks in firefighters
  • help IIAC to consider whether occupational health conditions in firefighters should be recommended for inclusion in the list of prescribed diseases for which Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit is payable
