These documents support Public Health England’s (PHE’s) oral health survey of 3 year olds.

The population group for study is 3 year old children attending nurseries and playgroups.

The PHE oral health K-Hub resource provides all the necessary support materials for field workers to carry out oral health surveys.

The findings will allow local authorities to monitor this age group and make comparison with the 2013 survey, inform oral health improvement strategies and indicate where resources should be targeted.

This protocol aligns with the British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry (BASCD) diagnostic criteria for caries prevalence surveys and guidance on sampling for surveys of child dental health. The protocol provides a description of the standardised methods that fieldwork teams should use when undertaking the survey.
