  • what parental responsibility is and why we need it for passport purposes
  • how to use the information shown in the passport application to confirm parental responsibility
  • how to confirm parental responsibility if the child is registered as a British national (and the parents have not supplied a birth certificate)

Updated to tell examiners they must consider the child’s place of residence when considering parental responsibility for international applications, and the phrase ‘responsible parent’, shown in some UKVI records for children registered as British nationals, does not mean that person has parental responsibility for the child.
