Details

This guidance is for manufacturers of plug-in vans and trucks. It explains:

  • the technical criteria that trucks and vans must meet to be eligible for the plug-in grant scheme
  • how to apply to have a vehicle approved as eligible under the scheme
  • which form is appropriate for your application

  1. Forms B and C have been updated for clarity to include which vehicle types align with each form of documentation.

  2. Updated information about battery or fuel cell warranty and degradation.

  3. For vehicles approved to IVA or NSSTA routes, crash testing requirements have changed. Best practice guidelines for providing evidence for consumer electrical safety have also been updated. When starting a new vehicle application, applicants should submit Form A: scheme number application to the Vehicle Certification Agency. There is a new contact email address for queries about whether a new variant of a vehicle needs to be approved.

  4. Guidance amended to reflect an updated multistage build section, application process clarification and eligibility criteria including maximum speed requirements for refuse collection vehicles and range requirements for multistage build vehicles.

  5. The guidance has been updated to reflect the changes to the plug-in grant schemes announced on 18 March 2021.
