The Energy Act 2008 obtained Royal Assent on 26 November 2008. It contains the legislative provisions required to implement UK energy policy following the publication of the Energy Review 2006 and the Energy White Paper 2007. This memorandum provides a preliminary assessment of the Energy Act 2008 and has been prepared by the Department of Energy and Climate Change for submission to the Energy and Climate Change Committee. It is published as part of the process set out by the previous Government in the document Post Legislative Scrutiny – The Government’s Approach (Cm 7320).
