Course aim

The PIC provides officers, SNCOs and MOD civilians occupying delivery team propulsion system assignment engine, and trade specialist at front line command units, with a more in-depth understanding of the principles of gas-turbine aero-engine regulation and lifing aspects of propulsion integrity.

Outline of syllabus

The lectures are delivered in a symposium format by subject matter experts from the MAA, Defence Equipment and Support, Defence School of Aeronautical Engineering and Rolls-Royce PLC and delegates are encourages to participate in debate to gain most value from the event. Topics covered include:

  • through life management plans

  • critical and non-critical components

  • materials and failure mechanisms

  • damage under complex loading

  • lifing statistics

  • fatigue testing and service samples

  • health and usage monitoring

  • exchange rate calculation

  • safety and risk management

  • future policy and strategic thinking

  • specialized support for propulsion engineers under RA 4000 and RA 5000 series, particular focus on RA 5726: integrity management and the Manual of air system integrity management
