In 2017, the government asked the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) to make recommendations on how to ensure an efficient, low-carbon freight system.

Our response to the ensuing 2019 report, Better delivery: a challenge for freight:

  • sets out our position on the recommendations
  • announces our intention to form a partnership with the freight industry to create a ‘future of freight’ strategic plan with a cross-modal focus

The long-term plan will build on the work of the NIC and address wider and emerging challenges and opportunities such as our new relationship with the European Union and the lessons learned during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic at our ports and borders.

The future of freight plan was published in 2022.
