Details

The CDEI was commissioned by the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (a joint policy unit within  the Department for Transport and the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy), to provide expert advice to inform the future regulation and governance of self-driving vehicles. The CDEI’s recommendations in this report directly support, the government’s ‘Connected and Automated Mobility 2025: Realising the benefits of self-driving vehicles in the UK’ - a roadmap which commits to developing a new legislative framework to build trust in self-driving vehicles while enabling innovation.

Next steps

This report will inform the work of the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles as they develop primary and secondary legislation in this area.  As they start to implement the new legislative and regulatory frameworks for self-driving vehicles, we will continue to support their development.
