Details

The DfT bus fares index is compiled from information provided by around 80 of the largest bus operators in England and Wales, and contributes to the Retail Prices Index (RPI), Consumer Prices Index (CPI) and National Accounts.

The methodology used to compile the bus fares index was last reviewed around 10 years ago, and in preparation for the forthcoming assessment of bus statistics by the UK Statistics Authority the Department commissioned a review of the index which was carried out by the Office for National Statistics’ Methodology Advisory Service between May and September 2011.
