Details

In line with Better Regulation principles, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) – including the Health and Safety Executive – provides information on its plans to review legislation which affect businesses.

The report covers 2 types of reviews:

  • statutory reviews – those that a department commits to doing, in primary or secondary legislation, including reviews linked to sunset clauses* – at August 2013, DWP was estimated to have 10 such reviews

  • non-statutory reviews – are not committed to in law, but a department has indicated it will do, in an Impact Assessment

*A sunset clause is a provision in a Bill that gives it an ‘expiry date’ once it is passed into law. ‘Sunset clauses’ are included in legislation when Parliament should have the chance to decide on its merits again after a fixed period.
