Details
This revised direction requires Barnet council to continue to take steps to improve its children’s social care services, including co-operating with the DfE appointed children’s services improvement advisers, Essex county council. Barnet will support the chair of the improvement board to report to the Secretary of State on a quarterly basis.
This direction follows a review of the effectiveness of the intervention approach undertaken in May 2018 by the Commissioner for Children’s Services in Barnet.
In January 2018 an independent report by the Commissioner for Children’s Services in Barnet recommended that Barnet receive intensive peer support from a ‘good’ council.
It follows a report by Ofsted that judged the overall effectiveness of the council’s children’s social care services to be ‘inadequate’.
This direction replaces the earlier statutory direction issued to the council in January 2018.
This direction was lifted on Ist July 2019 following a re-inspection by Ofsted in which services were judged as good.
