Details
The department’s published data and statistics on road collisions and casualties are based on data reported to the police via the data collection system known as STATS19.
STATS19 is periodically reviewed to ensure that it remains fit for purpose, addressing emerging needs while minimising burdens on reporting police officers. The most recent review was started in 2018, with final recommendations published in 2021.
This document provides a brief update on progress in implementation of the STATS19 review, as well as the road safety statistics team’s future plans for developing the data collected and the publication and dissemination of the resulting statistics.
Further details of the new specification are available in the STATS20 guidance document.
