Details

This research project explored and developed ways to assess the level of potential interaction between different transport schemes in an investment portfolio for the Department for Transport.

The objectives of the project were to:

  • develop a technique that would allow identification of the likelihood of interactions between transport schemes more quickly than the full set of steps required to undertake a full programmatic appraisal
  • develop an interactive visualisation of these interactions to act as additional supporting analysis at the policy formulation stage

This research focused on the development of an analytical technique that uses traffic flow information from a transport assignment model to assess the potential for interactions between schemes in a hypothetical investment portfolio to achieve the objectives.
