Details

The second annual UK-Japan Nuclear Dialogue was held at the FCO on 30-31 Oct 2013. This annual bilateral dialogue was agreed during the Prime Minister’s visit to Japan in April 2012.

This year’s Dialogue was co-chaired by the FCO’s Chief Scientific Adviser Robin Grimes and Koichi Hasegawa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan.

The Dialogue discussed civil nuclear cooperation across five strands: Decommissioning and Decontamination, Research and Development, Safety and Regulation, Aspects of Policy and Public Communication.

The Dialogue acknowledged the existing strong cooperation between the UK and Japan. Further steps forward were discussed including the possibility of a joint research fund and to share experiences on public communication and stakeholder engagement.
