Details

The Sentence Review Commission (SRC) was established to facilitate an accelerated programme for the release of prisoners convicted of scheduled offences in Northern Ireland, or of similar offences elsewhere, committed prior to 10 April 1998. The Northern Ireland (Sentences) Act 1998 sets out the criteria that must be met for a prisoner to be eligible for early release.

The SRC is an independent body made up of a Chairman and three other Commissioners appointed by the Secretary of State. It operates as an Arms Length Body (ALB) sponsored by the NIO.

This paper is laid before Parliament according to legislative requirements.
